Capoeira Cultural Event and Batizado

September 28, 2024 | Alexis & Jim Pugh Theater | 10 a.m.

Experience the Capoeira "Batizado," a vibrant Afro-Brazilian cultural celebration presented by Capoeira for Tomorrow. This annual event brings together practitioners, students and spectators to honor the art and heritage of Capoeira.

At the heart of the Batizado is the graduation ceremony where students showcase their skills and dedication. This momentous occasion sees students receive new cords or belts, symbolizing their progression within Capoeira.

The event features live music with traditional instruments like the berimbau, pandeiro and atabaque, accompanying the Capoeira roda (circle). Cultural dances like the Maculelê and Puxada de Rede add to the festive atmosphere.

Attendees also enjoy a martial arts show, where seasoned Capoeira mestres and instructors display their dynamic and acrobatic skills. This showcase offers a glimpse into the mastery and expertise that define Capoeira.

The Capoeira Batizado is a multifaceted event celebrating the rich cultural heritage of Brazil while honoring the dedication and achievements of its practitioners. It's a unique cultural experience that combines music, dance, martial arts and community. Join us for this extraordinary celebration and immerse yourself in the vibrant world of Capoeira.
