La Casa de Bernarda Alba
La Casa de Bernarda Alba
Immerse yourself in the fiery passion and profound storytelling of La Casa de Bernarda Alba, presented by Orlando Flamenco and directed by the acclaimed Carlos Rodriguez. Written in 1936 by Federico Garcia Lorca, just two months before his untimely death, this play delves into themes of feminine repression, passion, conformity and sexuality against the tumultuous backdrop of the Spanish Civil War. Recognized as a literary treasure in Latin America and Spain, La Casa de Bernarda Alba is one of Western literature’s most provocative works.
The performance features a stellar cast of internationally renowned flamenco artists, including guitarist and composer Jose Luis de La Paz, cantaora Rocio Bazan and dancer Mariana Martinez. These artists, along with members of Flamenco del Sol’s professional company, bring Lorca’s gripping story to life through the intense and emotive lens of flamenco.
Following La Casa de Bernarda Alba, experience a vibrant flamenco and Spanish dance performance by Flamenco del Sol that celebrates modern themes of freedom, expression and acceptance. This juxtaposition of past and present ideals highlights how women navigate the world, featuring live music and performances by Carlos Rodriguez, Rocio Bazan, Mariana Martinez, Jose Luis de la Paz and more.
