ABOUT THE ARTIST

Raised in the south and southwest with Appalachian roots, Terri Binion's first songs were written in a small town in the Mojave desert in the early ‘70s. At 11 years old, after learning some guitar, she began to craft her first songs while devoutly listening to the sound of records curated by her father and older brother. From Johnny Cash to Acid Rock, she showed no criticism towards any genre. Taking in all the variety, she eventually landed her songwriting style in folk.

A staple in the local Orlando scene since the early ‘80s, Terri Binion has opened for nationally touring acts, performing in historic venues like The Bottom Line in New York City and the iconic Ryman in Nashville. She has also played across Europe and toured solo in the States, setting-up in coffee shops, bars and bookstores, playing sometimes for thousands, and other times just the bartender. She's lived divine moments and more than once, and in more than one way, found herself with all four wheels off the road.

She writes songs creating a landscape, a view into the truth of her own experience. A well-noted songwriter once wrote that Terri had found her own compass as a songwriter and was "guided by stars not visible to the average eye". Enlightened by hard lessons, and an open book, her songs and stories have lead listeners to the edge of something of their own, long put away.

With miles, years and experience behind her now, Terri Binion is looking at retirement from her career in the industry and moving onto a new dream that will resolve in a move out of the state and Orlando, this town and community that for 42 years she has been supported by and truly loves.

Terri Binion is happy to be making her debut at Judson's and grateful for the opportunities given to her local peers to play their original music at this beautiful venue.
