Charu Suri

About the show

Grammy-nominated pianist and composer Charu Suri blends Indian ragas with traditional jazz in a distinctive style she pioneered called “raga jazz.”

Born in South India, Charu was a piano prodigy who began playing at age 5 and performing in concert halls by age 9. Her latest album, SHAYAN, earned a nomination for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album at the 68th Grammy Awards, and her work appeared on three Grammy-nominated recordings that year.

Her compositions have been performed by celebrated musicians including Yo-Yo Ma, Steve Gadd, Ron Carter and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. Charu bridges classical Indian traditions and modern jazz with her bold musical vision.
