About the show
Feel the power of voices in motion as Orlando Sings fills Steinmetz Hall with the rhythms, colors and passion of dance. Featuring Apollo, Harmonia, the Orlando Sings Youth Choral Artists, the Orlando Sings Symphonic Chorus and Solaria Players, ¡Baila y Canta! travels across cultures to explore the universal connection between music and movement.
Harmonia and Apollo open the evening with choral music inspired by dance traditions from around the world. Then, the Orlando Sings Symphonic Chorus and Solaria Players Orchestra, conducted by Andrew Minear, take us to Argentina for Martín Palmeri’s exhilarating Misa a Buenos Aires (Misatango). One of contemporary choral music’s most distinctive works, Misatango brings the drama and grandeur of the Latin Mass together with the unmistakable rhythms, intensity and passion of Argentine tango. Featuring renowned bandoneón artist Emmanuel Trifilio and mezzo-soprano Erika Vasallo, along with special guests and a few surprises, ¡Baila y Canta! promises a memorable evening of music, movement, color and joy—from the first beat to the final celebration.
